Campaign for the OU-NU Merger
A special election was held on December 12, 1967, for Omaha voters to decide whether the Municipal University of Omaha should merge with the University of Nebraska to become the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The merger measure received widespread support and a well-organized pro-merger campaign was organized. A variety of local business, education, and labor leaders, as well as large numbers of OU students and faculty, sought to convince voters that the merger would lead to a great improvement in Omaha higher education.
