College of Medicine
The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s origins stretch back to the formation of the Omaha Medical College (OMC) in 1881. A group of Omaha physicians incorporated to establish OMC as a proprietary or for-profit school. In the ensuing decades the school grew. But as the twentieth century heralded new requirements in licensure, scientific equipment, and basic science training, OMC could not financially survive on student fees alone.
The trustees of OMC and the University of Nebraska Board of Regents reached an agreement to affiliate on April 18, 1902.
